April 1, 2011 My Reflection

First, I learned that I could get over the fear of writing for my peers. I have always been fearful of that. I felt so insecure and that what I wrote didn’t matter. Well it does and others helped me to comfirm that! I was so elated by what others were willing to write on their blogs and reading them inspired me and helped me to keep going.

I found that I had the motivation and the stamina to continue at least for 31 days and maybe more. It was difficult at times, and at the end, I was have some difficulties but knew that it didn’t matter because as one person put it, writing is our life- well maybe I paraphrase, but it is a part of us and it gives others a glimpse into who we are at a given time.

Thanks for the opportunity. I loved the comments and they really kept me going. Now I know what I MUST do for my students. This really reinforces Writing Workshop! Happy Slicing! :)

    Yes, it does enforce writing workshop and what teachers must do as educators--live what they teach. You are so right on all accounts. We are all certainly better for all of this. Hope you're enjoying spring break!!!

Sink or swim could mean the same to many people and to others different meanings. How profound! I think in writing, to sink or swim would be to just get started and not stop.  What have you got to lose?    I went back to college when I was 39 years old to get my English degree.  I had a B.S. from college in Home Economics at that time, but was unable to find a teaching job so thought I'd add to my license so I could teach. Try going back to school with students who are approximately twenty years younger than you.  Talk about a challenge. June 21, 2011 First Day of Summer

First I have to make a few comments about a workshop I went to yesterday. It was the All Write Institute and it was so inspiring!  It's like a breath of fresh air and like the first day of spring and summer, a new beginning! It makes me feel ready to begin again.  With the Keynote, I listened to six speakers.  Some of course were the same speakers because I liked Jeff Anderson so much, I went back to hear him twice.  I felt he could help me with what I wanted to learn at this time to help my students the most at this time. With that said, summer brings in things we don't have to do; we don't have to wear winter coats, no worry about snow or shoveling, the lack of ice on the roads makes it so much easier to drive and easier to walk, we don't freeze and have cold breezes that make it hard to breathe in the cold, no fear of sickness like colds or flu, and finally we feel more like being outside (well I don't like cold) so I stay inside more in the winter.
